Description:
The convenience industry has changed dramatically during the recession. Increased fuel costs and ever sky rocking tobacco taxes have pushed most wholesalers out of business. In an industry dominated by small, mostly independently owned stores this has made it increasingly difficult to locate product, and often at smaller margins when obtained. We are developing a strategy to consolidate our stores to increase buying power then begin wholesaling, targeting smaller independent stores. The goal of this would be to build a wholesale network that could support a new franchise system using our unique brand and product mix targeted at smaller stores. Current convenience franchise opportunities require large initial investments, large royalty commitments and minimum floorspace requirements. The floorspace requirement is the biggest flaw in this system that we can exploit. By focusing on smaller stores, we can encourage smaller stores to franchise by converting to our brand and style, as well as seeking out new locations for company owned stores.
